Question:

Dear dog,
Who said this: "My dad always used to say, "If you're falling off a cliff, you may as well try to fly. You have nothing to lose.""
Alan

Answer:

Dear Alan,
That was a bit of a tricky one, but I managed. It was said by (fictional character) Captain John Sheridan from the sci-fi series Babylon 5.

Question:

Dear Winston,
What does the Afghan flag look like?
Pierre

Answer:

Dear Pierre,
The flag of Afghanistan has three vertical stripes that are black, red and green. The red stripe has a gold emblem with a temple-like structure encircled by a wreath on the left and right and by an Islamic inscription above. Quite striking, in fact.

Question:

Why are you a dog?
Selina

Answer:

Dear Selina,
If you believe in reincarnation, the basic idea is, that the better you behave in one life, the better your starting position will be in the next. So maybe I was REALLY good in my previous life ;)
If you don't belive in reincarnation... well, let's just say I got lucky :)

Question: Please, what is the best time to visit London as a tourist?
Pedro Cela
Answer:

Dear Pedro,
London is a great city to visit anytime of the year, but there are a few things to keep in mind. The late autumn can be a bit on the wet side, and February and March are rather cold and grey. December is great for Christmas shopping and January for the big sales. July and August are the warmest, but remember that most theatres are closed in August. September might just be the perfect month to visit - warm and dry, theatre season begins, seafood and Soho Jazz festivals - allround good times to be had.

Question: Hey Winston,
Can you like other dogs example a fine little bulldog :) And now I know why BullGuard names BullGuard.
Love Martin
Answer: Dear Martin,
I love ALL other dogs, even the ones that don't like me. The bark at me and I try to lick them. The other day, for instance, I met the prettiest little bulldog puppy, and we played for a long time.
And yes, you're right - BullGuard was named after the idea of a big, strong bulldog keeping your computer safe.

Question: Hi Winston,
My Staff Bull Terrier is also cute, but he is getting close to pension, but he is very clever.
mrstedd
Answer: Dear Mr. Stedd,
I have no doubt that he is indeed VERY clever. I've met (and played with) many Staff Bullies, and they have all been really quick witted... maybe even more so than me!
Give him a bone from me.

Question:

Dear Winston...
What is the correct grammar for this sentence, I'm having trouble with the word "lays"... ? The sentence goes "beneath the exterior
of our desktop PC's 'lays/lies' an intricate network of "... I am a native English speaker, but I suspect these verbs are commonly confused. You got any idea which is correct... ??
Glen

Answer: Dear Glen,
Is is one of the most common pitfalls of English grammar... and Danish too. The rule is that "lay" is something you do to something else, so here that would be wrong. You should instead use "lie".
Hope that helps.
