I was just trying to delete the file. Everytime I deleted it it used to reappear in the disk. I couldn't find any entry in the windows registry either. My antivirus scan also said that it was not a virus.

I thought out the most primitive way of dealing with it. I switched over to the command prompt and used the /f option along with the delete command.

Presto it worked.

I checked the floppy again from windows explorer. The file wasn't there.

When I selected the file before deleting it using the right-click and checked on the file properties it described the file as an application and AutoIT script. Then I checked on the version tab on the properties popup and it showed me a url : www.hiddensoft.com/AutoIT/.

I visited the site and got to know that AutoIT scripts can be used to meorize and duplicate windows tasks like keystrokes, cursor movements, mouse pointer movements etc. I just wasn't able to comprehend as to how this program replicates itself on my disk.

The question still remains unanswered - IS THIS A VIRUS or is it some harmless code / spyware / adware ?

You will not receive a YES or NO answer ... this type of answer you can get if you send the suspect file to be analyzed by a pro team.

It seems like a keylogger to me... but who knows? shakehead
I saw legal software with the same behavior...
