i have been facing this problem from the past two days!

I have reformatted my whole pc twice to rid myself of this problem, but have been unsuccessful. I will describe the problem in detail and how it has originated!

Symptoms:
1) Cannot unhide my hidden folders
2) No detection made by any of the Anti-virus programs (my college computer service guy suggested i keep two programs- NOD32 and Mcafee)
3) Windows just doesnt shutdown in Normal mode. All the programs close, and all items are cleared from the background, but the computer continues to run, the mouse is operational, BUT ctrl+alt+del doesnt work. I am left only with the option to press teh power off button

I still am not able to figure out how the virus infects the PC. After reformatting, i install the anti-virus programs first, have them updated and fuctional. From the backup (this is the source i suspect) (USB drive and external hard-disk), after they are scanned and approved by the anti-virus. i restore the system. the backup files would most include: Microsoft office docs, pdf, movies, software exe files. During teh process, (i havent been able to figure out when) the hidden files disappear. The other fuctions continue to function properly, the pc shut-downs and restarts correctly in normal as well.....

But then for no reason, after a couple of shut-downs, DURING THE PROCESS OF SHUTDOWN a error message pops up, saying the WScript.exe could not be executed or something and the PC jus stops the shutdown process.

Please help me solve this!

TIA

Hello smile

Go to Start  - Control Panel  -  Add-Remove Programs
Remove the following if found or any variation:

One of Your antivirus programs

Having more than one antivirus program active in memory uses additional resources and can result in program conflicts and  will typically cause your computer to crash, and will provide less protection.
Not more.

Then ->

Please download Combofix:

and save to the desktop.

Close all other browser windows.

Important-> Temporarily disable your anti-virus, real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
Go to start --> run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall

When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.

Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.

NB. If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer.. We do not clean logs that have P2P applications installed as this can cause reinfection during your cleaning.

Do NOT post your problem in someone elses thread.
