No matter what I do, I keep getting "Read Errors" when my anti-virus program scans my system. Read errors show as the following line items in the dialog box:

kernel32.dll -- Reading error
wsock32.dll -- Reading error
user32.dll -- Reading error
shell32.dll -- Reading error
CWCDOS.EXE -- Reading error

I reinstalled Windows XP-Pro to see if it would fix the problem.
Didn't do any good.

Any ideas? confused

did the winXP_cdrom report any reading errors during the installation process?
if it did, you may wish to try with another cd.

later edit:
also, you may wish to try 2 different antiviruses, and see if they both report the same errors.

You asked, "Did the winXP_cdrom report any reading errors during the installation process?

Thanks for responding, Cris, but no, it didn't.

You wrote, "Try 2 different antiviruses, and see if they both report the same errors."

Well, everything that scans my system reports similar errors. My firewall (ZoneAlarm) sees them, my spyware scanner sees them -- they're definitely in there and apparently corrupted.

You know, I've tried and tested a thousand different spyware, registry, and virus scanners. They all will scan your system, but none of them will actually REMOVE or fix anything -- unless you pay them.

Until I can get the 30 or 40 bucks to pay for one of these guys, do you know of any free programs that will actually remove, or at least help you remove, malware?

I'd appreciate any kind of positive input.

Thanks.
