freaked I didn't use any anti-virus tools but I tried avg downloaded online yesterday and detected about 1600 viruses in my laptop!freaked

Two words,
  recovery disk, delete what you can, let avg delete what it can and you will probably wind up formatting and reinstalling your os,If your running xp you can take it back to the origanol settings with recovery. Good luck and please keep me posted when you get it cleaned, update the daylights out of your OS and your AVG. I'm truly sorry you had this happen.

Same thing happened to my friend, but he had like 100,000 spywares/adwares and it crashed his computer permanantly.

He must have got hit by a sub-seven as well as several dozen others. but my advice still stands.
