I reinstalled my Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit computer 2 days ago and susequently downloaded Bullguard 8.0 64 Bit. It had all been working fine before the reinstall.
Now when I installed Bullguard it turned out that there was no access to the update server which was down as well as the website. In addition I got an error message.

The update server was fixed yesterday but the error message continues. It seems that the "engines" that run the anti virus and the firewall do not initiate correctly and sometimes I have to restart the firewall to get it to run.

I talked to a support assistant who said I should un-install Bullguard, create a new windows account and then reinstall Bullguard; which then would work fine on all user accounts.
I did that but it didn't do anything.

The error message is "Error 0x41d; Step 5".

Does anyone know what to do? I have been using Bullguard for 5 years since it was an infant and I would hate to go back to the "big yellow company", but it seems that none is able to help me so that will be the way I will have to go come Monday.

Thanks,

Jens Teislev

Nope that didn't work and neither did supporter Roxanas solution which I paste below in case it should help anyone else.

Dear BullGuard User,

Here is what I recommend that you do:

(A) Download a kit of BullGuard 8.0 from our website and save it on your computer:

http://www.bullguard.com/try/bullguard-internet-security.aspx

Disregard the trial note mentioned there, that is only for first time users of BullGuard, what you download is the full program that will work for the entire duration of your account.

Look at the guides from the links below and save also the files attached to this message, then disconnect from the Internet:

(B) Disable Windows Defender, as it is known to conflict with BullGuard:

1. Hold the “Windows Key” and press the letter “R”.
2. In the Run box type: msconfig
3. Then press the [Enter] key.
4. Click “Continue” on the message box that comes up.
5. In the window that appears select the Startup tab.
6. Locate the Startup item called “Windows Defender” and uncheck the box next to it.
7. Click Apply > OK and say NO to rebooting your computer.
8. Then open Windows Defender.
9. Click Tools > General Settings.
10. Scroll down to the "Real-time protection options" area.
11. Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection".
12. After you uncheck this, click on the Save button.
13. Close Windows Defender.
14. Reboot your computer to make sure the changes are implemented. Make sure the Windows Firewall is also closed.

(C) Disable (at least temporarily) the User Account Control feature, as it can sometimes disrupt the installation of BullGuard and its functionality:

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Under User Account and Family settings click on the "Add or remove user account".
3. Click on your own user account.
4. Under the user account click on the "Go to the main User Account page" link.
5. Under "Make changes to your user account" click on the "Change security settings" link.
5. In the "Turn on User Account Control (UAC) to make your computer more secure" click to unselect the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". Click on the Ok button.
6. You will be prompted to reboot your computer. Do so when ready.

(D) Manually uninstall and reinstall BullGuard:

1. Go to the Start Menu > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

2. Locate BullGuard in the programs list and remove it.

3. When asked whether you wish to keep the current settings it is VERY IMPORTANT that you choose NOT to.

4. Once BullGuard is completely uninstalled, restart your computer in Normal Mode and run the file I have sent you attached to this email. You will need first to extract the file from its archive: Right click on the file and choose Extract. The new file will have the extension .reg. Run the file by double clicking on it and answer Yes to the question that appears.

5. Restart your computer in Safe Mode by tapping the F8 button right after you restart your computer, until you reach the Windows Advanced Options Menu where you select the 'Safe Mode' option.

6. Go to the Start menu > Search. Select "All files and folders" and type: bullg
Delete all the files and folders that are brought up by the search.

7. Afterwards, go to the start menu > Run. Type: regedit
Press Enter.

8. Go to the Registry Editor’s File menu and select export. Save a copy of your registry data on a location from your computer.

9. While you are in the Registry Editor, press Ctrl + F and type: bullg
Delete each registry key that is highlighted in the Search. You will have to repeat the Ctrl + F procedure until no more registry keys belonging to BullGuard are highlighted.

10. It is important to delete this key in particular:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\App Paths\\bullguard.exe

11. Repeat the whole search operation (including files and registry keys) only this time look for all files, folders and registry keys related to: filespy

12. Note: if you do not find or cannot delete all the files that you find in the searches, do not worry and proceed to the next step.

13. Restart the computer and install BullGuard.

Please make sure you install a copy of BullGuard from our website and not from a CD.

14. Restart the computer after the installation is complete, connect to the Internet and log in to BullGuard with your current username and password.
