I recently installed PowerDVD 6. I decided to block PowerDVD's access to internet, through Bullguard, as I see no need for it to do so. However, even though PowerDVD is set to 'Block' under the 'Policy' setting in Bullguard Profiles, every single time I start the program Bullguard pops up the following error: 'File Modified: The application has been modified etc etc... Do you still want to allow it?' several times - But, no matter how many times I click 'No', this message keeps appearing. There is no button I can tick to say 'Do not warn me about this again'. Any help in blocking the program silently would be much appreciated. Cheers, James
Under "When an application attempts to use the network", instead of "Ask me what to do", choose "Silently block all applications" instead.
I've never tried this but it sounds like it should still block the applications you have chosen to block, only without the notification. Presumably applications you want to allow will still be allowed. Try it and see what happens.
Thanks for the suggestion. I did consider enabling that option, but decided against it since that would mean programs I install in the future, which I do wish to have internet access, will automatically be blocked.
Any other ideas? I mean, I'm not sure why I am finding myself in this position; Bullguard should automatically block a program which I have already told it to. Does anyone have a solution?
I still think that my suggestion is worth a try. I've tried messing around with this on my machine and it seems that any programs set to allow will still be allowed using this option. Surely any future programs you install can also be set to allow . Perhaps the description "Silently block all applications" is slightly misleading. What it means is applications you have chosen to block, not every single one. Hope this makes some kind of sense, it's a bit difficult to explain.
Thanks; I understand what the option does. The problem with it, though, is that whilst it will continue to allow or block my current programs' access to the internet according to my previous settings; all programs I install in the future will automatically be blocked. I would consequently have to manually allow every program internet access through my profile. It's definitely not worth the hassle!
Thanks for your suggestion though; if you or anyone else has any other ideas please let me know.
Why don't you try the "Ask us a question" option (available from the Bullguard Home page, under Support). Replies on this forum tend to be very thin on the ground, and at least you will get a prompt reply from the horses mouth, so to speak. Perhaps you could post their reply here for future reference.
Thanks for the advice... I emailed Bullguard and they got back to me within one hour! Here's the response I got:
"The notification message you mentioned does not actually refer to allowing the application Internet access. It simply notifies you the application has been changed and asks whether you wish to accept the change and continue applying the same policy for the application. The message says "Do you still wish to allow it" because it does not check what the policy is for the application in question. However, should the application try to access the Internet, it will still be blocked.
In order to stop the message from appearing, you should click the Yes button in order to acknowledge the change. If you click the No button, the message will simply appear every time you use the application."
So that's it! Problem solved! Thanks for your help Virago and Bullguard!
