Hey Paulh

Go to Start - Control Panel - Add-Remove Programs
Remove the following if found or any variation:

Spyware Begone

Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "BFU"

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to its own folder (c:\BFU)

Next, http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcra Remover. Save it in the folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not run the Uninstaller and the Remover yet.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Please reboot into Safemode:
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key (or F5 on some computers)
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Open My Computer and navigate to the c:\BFU folder. Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

In the scriptline to execute field copy and paste c:\bfu\alcanshorty.bfu
Press execute and let it do its job.

Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Reboot into normal windows and post new HiJackThis log.

http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu This came up as a HTML file with no mention of Alcra Remover. I saved it to BFU folder. Is this correct?

ATF Cleaner gives the option to save or run. If save, where do I save it? To the same BFU folder? Thank you. Paul

Another newbie problem. I can't boot in safe mode because my USB keyboard is not active until it's too late.

I was able too get in the BIOS too enable USB keyboard. Here is the new log. There seems to be a glitch during boot up. Again, thank you for your help. Paul

Next go to Start- Search and scrolldown using the scroll bar on the right. Go down to More advanced options and click.

Hello Touch, I was a bit confused on the open folder options part. I checked the show hidden files and display contents folders. I then unchecked the Hide protected operating systems. After that I did not know where to find the files you wanted deleted like the gck.exe file. Anyway I just did the next part and here it is.

Ok.

It can bee some corrupted system files -

It is therefore worth checking to see if there are any corrupt system files using scannow sfc.

To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

Reboot

If it does´nt help, look inside your computer, and clean it carefully, if necessary

I am ready to throw this thing out the window. I can use the computer for the most part without problems. It all started with random freeze up during the game BF1942. Then even when the game was not on it would freeze up now and then. Now the game won't load at all. Just after the EA games part and the intro with music is about to start the computer starts screeching through the speaketrs and freezes up.

I was not able to complete this (sfc /scannow)

First problem that came up was this message ( Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability Windows must restore the original versions of these files.)

Insert your Windows XP home 2 cd pack.

I only have a recovery XP Home cd that came with the computer and it didn't take that.

When I tried to ignore this warning I received this message.

(Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL CACHE. )

This message came up over and over again.
