I was on the computer late last nite downloading music files and videos etc, and was told to download a certain file by a website to make my transactions faster, I thot that the website would be trust worthy so accepted the highlighted file, but as soon as I hit run all hell broke loose! It was spyware programmes saying I had 50 viruses on file and that my computer was at a critical state of risk and I should go to these websites and buy all there antivirus definitions for $70 each! It was telling me my computer would run slower (which all of a sudden it was) and that I was at major risk, but I ran my own virus scan and found nuffing atol leaving me to the conclusion that these alerts were the viruses themselves, asking for bank detail etc! I started to remove the uploaded files from my desktop and modem and after I had removed these my computer was fine, but these 2 security alerts still remain in the icon bar at the bottom left, both refering me to sites to buy there products continuously flashing up! and now pop ups of all kinds seem to be making there way thro my system. I would be grateful for any sort of help atol, but i still dont know wether to believe these icons.

that "antisvirus", which tells you have viruses and ask you to pay, is virus itself. you have probably installed couple of viruses and fake antivirus at the same time and now they want to trick you and make you pay for nothing. could you describe what sites they re-direct you or what viruses they say you have? it's hard to ell you how to get rid of this thing, if i don't know its name. or you could download hijackthis and show us your log. hjt log shows what possibly malicious thing you have.
