I have had (and might still have) a nasty trojan infection. However, I have run about 15-20 anti-trojan programs and my computer now works just fine. Only problem is that xoftspy keeps on detecting coolwebsearch and cws.oslogo registry keys. I have of course deleted them multiple times but an hour or so later they are there again. Any advice or help on how to remove them permanently wouldbe GREATLY appreciated!
have you deleted from the regedit? done your diskclean (with restore on) when you do that go under the more options tab of the window that pops up(you are running XP right) click remove all restore points, then click OK. then restart A cold boot restart that will set the path clear. turn off machine wait 10 to 15 sec then restart. you can go into regedit and remove the registry key there. if you need help let me know I'll get you there.
Yes, I deleted them in regedit. I haven't done either a diskclean or cold boot start, since I don't know what either one is.....However, I might have gotten lucky because xoftspy and all other trojan detection programs haven't found anything bad in the last 12 hours (despite the fact that I have rebooted several times). So right now I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. But I would love to know what a cold boot start is and how to do a disk clean..
First A cold boot start is where you shut the computer completly down it's completly off. then you wait 10 to 15 seconds so the harddrive can stop turning then you restart. That's all a cold boot is. now the disk clean is done like this: go to start, all programs, accesories, system tools, diskclean, click on that. A window will pop up that says analyzing disk or something like that(not sure of message as I am not looking at it)
when it's done analyzing it will give you a list of options that you can perform to clean your hard drive, there will also be a "more options" tab to the right, click on that and that's where you can se three more options the only one (of course this is your choice) I play with is remove all restore points. the only time you really need to use this option is if you(god forbid) get another virus, hit that button, then ok, then do your cold boot. I hope this helps, and good luck and keep me posted.
However, since the computer has been symptom and coolwebsearch file-free for almost 24 hours I won't dare to tamper with anything......But if problems return I'll definitely try that.
