I have just installed and run Acronis Privacy Expert and it has removed Bullguard. Now Bullguard will not uninstall [error code 2753 on either remove or repair] Will not reinstall over the top either [same error code]. So I am stuck right now without Bullguard protection. Is this a fault with Bullguard or Acronis?
Maybe try this, I bet a strange trojan, from, say, your boyfriend/girlfriend/local nerd hacked Acronis which in turn hacked BullGuard, but if removing acronis stops BullGuard from working---Some hacking had to have been done on the Acronis side.
Back to what you can do. If it IS an effective trojan/virus, like it sounds like---Do this:
1. Reboot your PC 2. Press F8 after your moniter displays some text or changes to a lighter black (You might be kind of raising a brow, but all the PCs I've ever used have always left me saying this to the person---NEVER BOOT UP A PC PRESSING A LETTER ON A KEYBOARD---Without fail it comes up with a keyboard error message. Strange, yes. Untrue? No. 3. You should see a massive menu (In windows 2000/XP. Lower versions simply have a few basic options). Press down on your keyboard until you reach "Safe mode." Press enter. 4. Now try to uninstall BullGuard again. If you still see the error code, the problem is beyond me. It should uninstall perfectly fine. If it doesn't, maybe trying to get your local nerd to hack the registry might help. I'm sure he could delete the BullGuard registry keys. Then reinstall BullGuard via the downloaded .exe and you should be good to go. The registry is like part of the human brain that controls movement. Sure, you've got the data right in there. But if you don't know how to use it, what good is it? That's what the registry does.
NOTE: DO NOT MESS WITH THE REGISTRY ON YOUR OWN! MAKING ONE SMALL ERROR CAN CAUSE SEVERE DAMAGE! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING WAIT FOR TECH SUPPORT TO FIGURE OUT YOUR PROBLEM! THE REGISTRY IS NOT THE THING A BASIC USER SHOULD MESS WITH!
But you are also right in that's one way of getting rid of something. I also think you might be right about the acronis thing, while your at it have him do a disk clean once he has this under control, and keep his recovery program off, that way it only affects the OS not the back-up as well.
